I played around with the textures to try and understand more about them. I hope I managed to achieve some sense of depth though I need to spend more time on the actual composition. One problem I had was that I left the sky until the end which means that I had to paint around the rocks (these are rocks), not giving the best finish possible. I still have some work to do on it, such as the character on the top left.
One thing to try would be to paint the sky on a seperate layer, getting that down first can aid in setting the ambient light and the initail tone and feel of the piece. Water-colour artists often lay the sky in first so that they can layer the background, mid ground and foreground on top.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to your portrait work, you have a great sense of texture and I like the way that you are introducing an environment, if you can check out some of the concept art etc. from Pirates of the Carribean. they were obviously coming from a similiar place and it is interesting to see how they solved these problems.
