I like the painterly textures - but there's a softness to everything which means, in terms of spatial effect, everything feels a bit 'mid-ground'; in essence, I feel like I'm looking at the corrugated surface of a single surface - as opposed to a series of receding planes. You might want to apply the rules of occlusion/interposition more boldy and utilise aerial perspective and texture gradient to help orientate the eye and push the experience of distance:for more info on depth perception visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_perception
Ah phil this i understand it is my biggest problem I feel in all my pieces, Ill have a look at the link and talk to photoshop phil in the tutorial today.
